Let’s Talk About Sleep, Baby
Quality sleep is crucial for the well-being of both baby and mum. Adequate sleep is essential for a baby’s growth, development, and overall health. On average, newborns sleep approximately 14 to 17 hours a day, gradually reducing to around 12 to 16 hours by the age of four months. Understanding your baby’s sleep patterns is crucial for establishing a healthy routine and ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep for both baby and mum. Prioritising quality sleep not only fosters a happy and healthy baby but also supports mums in their caregiving journey.
Some must haves:
- Cotton Muslin Swaddle Blankets: Versatile and breathable, these blankets provide comfort
- Baby Nest: Crafted for ultimate softness, our baby nest ensure a comfortable and peaceful sleep for your baby.
Feeding A Newborn:
Breastfeeding and bottle feeding represent two distinct yet valuable methods for nourishing infants. Breastfeeding offers a natural and intimate connection, providing essential nutrients and antibodies critical for the baby’s health. It establishes a unique bond between mother and child. Conversely, bottle feeding introduces flexibility and convenience, allowing other caregivers to play a significant role in feeding, and allowing bonds to form between baby and their network of loved ones. Formula-fed infants receive necessary nutrients for growth; the choice between breastfeeding and bottle feeding depends on personal preferences, lifestyle, and health considerations. Regardless of the method chosen, creating a supportive environment that prioritises the well-being of both the baby and the mother is paramount.
Breastfeeding:
- Nursing Covers: Provide privacy while breastfeeding on-the-go with our stylish and functional muslin wraps that double as a nursing cover.
Bottle-feeding & Solids:
- Silicone Bibs: Keep your baby mess-free during their first attempts at solids with our easy-to-clean silicone bibs.
On-the-Go:
Embarking on the first outing with a baby can be a daunting yet exciting experience for new parents. The anticipation of unpredictable moments and the need to cater to the baby’s needs can make it feel overwhelming. However, thorough preparation is the key to turning this adventure into a successful and enjoyable outing. From packing the nappy bag with essentials like nappies, wipes, and a change of clothes to ensuring the pram or baby carrier is ready for the journey, meticulous planning can significantly ease the stress. Remembering to bring feeding supplies and considering the baby’s nap schedule can contribute to a smoother outing. While the initial steps may seem challenging, the joy of creating lasting memories during these early adventures often outweighs the initial uncertainties.
- Nappy Caddy: Stylish and practical, our nappy caddies are designed to carry all your baby essentials in an organised manner.
- Baby Feeding Sets: While not essential for the newborn, a good quality feeding set means your baby will get used to the routines of eating and begin to enjoy the feeding experience. Our silicone sets are perfect to take with you out and about, meaning you can continue your routine anywhere!
New Mum Essentials in Clothing
Clothing can be really overwhelming to consider – what size do we get? How many things does baby need? If we can give you some tips as parents: shops are always there; if you need something extra you can get it later!
Generally newborns like to be dressed one layer more than we as adults would comfortably wear. So if you’re in a shirt and shorts, maybe a thin long sleeved option would be best for baby. We recommend socks and mittens to keep extremities warm (and stop baby accidentally scratching themselves – those nails are sharp!) and rather than a lot of one style of clothing, have a few options available so you can change them if the weather changes.
New Mum Essentials For Play:
Playtime is essential for both bonding and development, and while newborns don’t necessarily play in the way you might think of playing, they still need time on the floor to get used to being away from the womb, and to give them all important tummy time to strengthen their neck muscles.
- Play Mats: Make anywhere a place to play with one of our portable playmats. Large enough to get on the floor and interact with bubs, our playmats are perfect for home or out on the go.
- Teethers: Teethers are a great play accessory to help your baby improve grip and hand/eye coordination, while also being a safe choice for mouthing, which most babies begin at around 3-4 months.
Health & Safety:
The world of health and safety can feel really overwhelming to the new parent. When I had my son, I remember feeling really confused about all of the options out there for baby safety. While some babies might need extra precautions based on birth size, gestation, illness, generally newborns are easy to keep safe. Remember to not leave them unattended on high surfaces like beds, away from animals who aren’t under your control, and out of extreme weather.
- Playpen: Playpens are a great way to allocate a space for baby to be in a safe, contained environment. Need a quick dash to the toilet? You’ll know baby is safe and sound until you return.
